Printing graphics using the K ribbon panel with a DATA CARD PRINTER.
When you use a color and monochrome ribbon, such as YMCKT, any graphics (such as bitmaps) in the card are printed using the color (YMC) panels of the print ribbon. For some card designs, you might want the black areas in a graphic to be printed using the K panel, such as when the graphics contain black text. If you use the Windows XP, 2000, or NT operating system, you can print black areas of graphics using the K panel by changing a registry setting. • If the card (or back side of the card) is printed using a monochrome ribbon, all information—text and graphics—are printed using the monochrome ribbon or K panel. Steps to follow To print black areas of bitmaps using the K panel, follow these steps. 1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run. 2. Type "regedit" and click OK. The Registry Editor opens. 3. In the Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet Control Printers SmartDriver* PrinterDriverData * or other printer name 4. With the PrinterDriverData key selected, from the Edit menu, choose New and then DWORD value. 5. Type "render bitmaps to K" as the name for the new value. Do not include the quotation marks and make sure to include spaces and capitalization as shown. When the name is correct, press Enter or click the OK button. 6. Right-click on the "render bitmaps to K" name and select Modify from the pop-up menu. 7. In the Modify dialog, make sure the Base is Hexadecimal and enter a non-zero value (such as “1” without quotes) in the Value data box. 8. Click OK to save the value. 9. Close the Registry Editor.
